Ethanol Fireplace FAQ
Q: Can I turn my existing fireplace into an ethanol fireplace?
A: As long as the dimensions will fit an ethanol insert and the existing fireplace is made of non-combustible materials, you can put this in an existing fireplace. Never install burner into plastic or wood.
Q: Is the ethanol fuel eco-friendly?
A: Ethanol fuel is an environmentally safe, clean burning product. It is safe for indoor or outdoor use and is a clean, plant-based fuel. It will have no toxic emissions, and only small amounts of CO2 and water vapor will be emitted. There will also be no soot, smoke, or residue that is common with wood-burning fireplaces. Never ingest fuel.
Q: Will my fireplace give off any smell when it's burning?
A: Ethanol fuel does have a slight smell to it, but should not be very strong or distracting.
Q: Do I need to buy a specific brand of ethanol fuel?
A: We recommend purchasing Ignis fuel or Smart Fuel for your ethanol fireplaces. If you purchase any other type of fuel, there may be additives that can cause flares and safety hazards. Never use boat or car fuel in your fireplace.
Q: What is the difference between recessed and wall mounted fireplaces?
A: Wall mounted features will be mounted and will stick out from the wall. Recessed units will tuck into the wall and will be flush with the wall.
Q: How do you add fuel?
A: Pour fuel into designated areas slowly, using a funnel. Never add fuel while the unit is still burning or hot. Fill no more than 3⁄4 full. Use only long lighter to ignite. Initial ignition may have a high flame close lid half way to light.
Q: Can I use my ethanol fireplace in a bathroom?
A: It is not ever recommended to use an ethanol fireplace in a bathroom or laundry room.
Q: How will my fireplace ship?
A: Most units are able to ship via UPS or FedEx, but some larger features will ship via LTL. In all instances, delivery will be curbside only, and the driver will not unpackage or move the items into your space.
Q: Does an ethanol fireplace require installation?
A: These features do require installation. The fireplace must only be installed on a solid surface of non-flammable material. Be sure to keep any flammable materials such as drapes/curtains and any decorations at least 4 feet away from fireplace.
Q: Do you provide installation services?
A: You will receive installation instructions, and all of the necessary hardware, but we do not provide any installation services. If you have any questions on the instructions, feel free to reach out and we can provide additional assistance.
Q: Is installation easy?
A: Installation is not difficult and many home owners can do the installations themselves with no problem.
Q: Are ethanol fireplaces safe?
A: When properly used, these are safe. Never leave an open fire unattended at any time. Make sure to monitor children and pets around the units.
Q: Do they require a lot of cleaning and/or maintenance?
A: You will need to clean your fireplace occasionally, based on the amount you use it. To clean the fireplaces, first make sure there is no fuel in them and that there is no debris or dust in the burner. You can wipe them down with a soft, damp cloth. Never use anything abrasive, or any harsh chemicals. Never clean while the unit is on or hot.
Q: Will my fireplace heat my room?
A: Depending on the size of the fireplace you are looking at, more or less heat will be emitted. None of the ethanol fireplaces are meant to be a sole source of heat in a room, but will provide nice warmth, similar to traditional fireplaces.
Q: Can I order an ethanol fireplace in different colors?
A: Many of the fireplaces and inserts come in multiple colors. The most common color options are stainless steel or black, but on several models red and white are also available. If you are not sure about the availability of certain colors, please feel free to ask.
Q: Does my fireplace come with accessories and are they flame resistant?
A: We have fire resistant ceramic log sets and fire resistant ceramic pebbles available.
